The process of becoming a mother: Changes in first-time mothers' experiences of motherhood before and after childbirth

This diploma thesis focuses on the experiences of first-time mothers in the process of becoming a mother, and their changes in experiencing motherhood before and after childbirth. The theoretical part contains six main chapters that address the main issues of motherhood from the perspective of existing research studies and academic literature. The aim of this diploma thesis is to describe first-time mothers: experience of motherhood and experiencing the process of becoming a mother. A qualitative design was chosen for the research purposes. The data collection method consisted of conducting semi-structured interviews. Six pregnant women - first-time mothers - were selected for the research population and two interviews were conducted with them, one of which took place before the childbirth and the other after the childbirth. Data analysis was performed based on interpretive phenomenological analysis of the text. The result of the thesis is a comprehensive description of topics related to motherhood. The research results show that the process of becoming a mother is undoubtedly a unique and non-transferable experience. Specifications of creating of child's relationship to a transitional object

The bachelor thesis focuses on specifications of creating a child's relationship to a transitional object. The purpose of this thesis is to describe and analyze how the relationship to a transitional object develops. The theoretical part describes problematics of transitional phenomena and object with emphasis on attachment, which is created towards this object by the child. It focuses also on the source of primary bond and attachment as important factors that form this bond. The research part is based on a qualitative design, and to obtain data are used in-depth interviews with nursery teachers and parents of children.
Maternal expectations in first-time mothers and their confrontation with reality

This bachelor thesis deals with the expectations of pregnant mothers - first-time mothers, it compares these expectations with their real experiences of childbirth and the postpartum period. The theoretical part of the bachelor thesis summarizes the existing knowledge about the transition of women to motherhood. It deals with the experience of pregnancy, expectations associated with motherhood and early postpartum adaptation. It also deals with how a woman experiences the first weeks after giving birth. The practical part is work up as a qualitative research. The goal is to examine the expectations of pregnant women, the experience of childbirth and the postpartum period, and possible discrepancies between the expectations and reality of early motherhood in four respondents. Data were analysed in intra- and inter-case comparison. It turned out that future mothers have the highest expectations from childbirth, helping a partner and from herself in a new role. They experience these to live changes very individually.

This thesis with title "Children's Group - Benefit for both, Parents & Child in the age of two up to three years" deals with nowadays actual social topic, which is placement of children of early age to outside-family institutions. The thesis is divided into two parts. The main task of the first, theoretic part, is to gather and work with all information, which might be used for the topic of work and which might be found in all available literature. The attention is focused onto family with a small child, on current form of such a family and factors, which influence education of the child and its involvement into the society. This part deals also in a detailed way with all family members. With a child, with its needs and possibilities of meeting those needs. It deals also with roles of mother and father, who together and responsibly approach to the education of the child and who, at a same time, try to combine family and career life in the most appropriate way. Mothers and fathers in communication with school

The bachelor thesis deals with the involvement of fathers and mothers in communication with the school. The first part is devoted to the theoretical knowledge of the relationship between family and school. In the introduction, we try to bring the concepts of communication and interaction, socialization. We also discusse the legislative definition of the relationship. We introduce a model, which seeks a relationships between families and schools. The last part is devoted to the knowledge in the field of gender. The second major part consists of empirical research. There are four case studies involved, the data in these studies was were obtained from interviews with teachers, pupils and their parents. Based on the analysis of these data, we find out who usually communicates with school and what factors are involved in the selection of the person representing the family involved. In the end, we made a comparison of the findings. These findings are then confronted with the current knowledge about the relationship between family and school.
Conflict of two roles. The issue of a dual role - parent as a teacher

RESUMÉ The topic of this thesis is the issue of two roles - a role of a teacher and a parent. The goal of the thesis is to research the main key features arising from the issue of the conflict of dual role of a parent and a teacher at the same time. The empirical part of the thesis tries to outline problems which the parents, or let me say, teachers experience in the home and school environment based on the fact that their child or children attend the same school where they themselves work as teachers. Furthermore, the thesis deals with their experience regarding the representation of these two roles in relation to their own family. The data analysis also tries to point out the advantages and disadvantages of the teacher job and also the advantages and disadvantages of the intermingled role of a teacher and a parent. The thesis presented here is written on the basis of the qualitative method of data obtaining and processing. The method of interview analysis is used as well. Statements of four women and four men, woman teachers and man teachers in the secondary school whose children also attended this particular school have been analyzed.
Visual Representations of the Mother in Pre-School Children's Art

This work is focusing on the issue of the portrayal of the mother in artistic statement of preschool children with a consideration on potential reflections of the changes in the conception of the role of the mother in the public. The theoretical part is focusing on present state of discoveries about the mother and motherhood from the viewpoints of the sociology and gender studies. It also deals with the viewing of the mother with the children in the visual arts from the first half of the twentieth century. The analysis part brings findings about the viewing of the mother with the children in the present visual arts and further description and the evaluation of the present practice of the lead of the art activities in the kindergartens. In the last phase of the research is a pedagogical experiment, which at the same time makes up the core of the didactic work. Together with other research findings it also is a starting point for proposal of new approaches to the theme "Mother", focusing on overcoming present thematic stereotypes in art activities that is lead by teachers in kindergartens. The concluding work makes up the summary of all research findings, which are encouraging to didactic evaluations.
Mother's role from the perspective of primiparous mothers

The bachelor thesis deals with the issue Mother's role from the perspective of primiparous mothers. The work aims to find out how the role of mother is perceived by the primaries themselves, what is part of this role and what is not part of it. At the same time, the work focuses on fathers and their duties in relation to the child, and the distinction of original ideas from the reality of the mothers of the firstborn. In order to attain the goal of the work, qualitative research was used in the form of personal interviews and subsequent categorization, their own interpretation and definition of terms from the point of view of respondents. The work contains the theoretical part and the practical part. While the theoretical part provides a literary search of Czech and foreign literature, in the practical part of the thesis it was found that the role of a mother is, besides child care, household care. With the help of the research, it was found that respondents addressed the division of labor between the parents of the child did not work too much and at the same time it was found that the role of the fathers is particularly marginal in the family. At the same time, it was found that the primary concepts of women differ considerably from the real life with the child, often in a negative way. The work thus achieved a very interesting but authoritative result. On the basis of the findings made, hypotheses were laid for further professional and scientific work.
Nurse and her choice of care for her own child

Bachelor thesis "Nurse and her choice of care for the owen child" deals with the question of work - life balance. The work has a usual structure composed of two parts, theoretical and empirical. The theoretical part focuses on a topics that could influence the choice of child care and brings the basic knowledge on the established work topic by Czech analysis and foreign literky and magazíne informatik sources. The main points discussed in it include the profession of a nurse, role, family, maternity and the opportunities that lead to harmonize like work and family, areas that can influence the choice of child care. The empirici part has a traditional structure and describes the own investigation that has taken place in Motol Universtity Hospital within the Gynecological Obstretrics Clinic. At the beginning the objectives and working hypotheses related to the given topic, the methodology, the owen questionnaire surfy and the characteristics of the studied sample were set. In the end, a discussion was conducted with previously conducted studies on simile topics and concluded with a final summary of the work.
